Transparency Notice

Operation Tango may earn commissions from educational partners when you enroll through our links. This does not affect what you pay or the independence of our recommendations.

1. Disclosure Statement

Operation Tango LLC (OpTango.net) is a participant in affiliate programs, including the Coursera Affiliate Program managed through Impact. This means that when we recommend educational courses, certifications, or learning resources and you make a purchase through our links, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you.

This disclosure is provided in compliance with the Federal Trade Commission's guidelines on endorsements and testimonials. We believe in complete transparency with our users about how we generate revenue to support our free decision-support tools for the military community.

2. What This Means for You

Our affiliate relationships do NOT affect:

  • The price you pay: It's the same whether you use our link or go directly to the provider's website
  • Our editorial independence: We only recommend resources we believe genuinely help military families
  • The accuracy of our tools and calculations: These are independent of any affiliate relationship

Our Commitment:

We are committed to providing honest, evidence-based recommendations. Our mission is to help military families make informed decisions — not to sell products. We would rather recommend no resource than recommend a poor one simply because it has an affiliate program.

3. How Affiliate Links Work

When you click an affiliate link on our site and make a purchase within a specified time period (typically 30 days), we may receive a commission from the merchant. Here's how it works:

  • 1.You click on a recommended course or resource link on OpTango.net or any of our applications
  • 2.You're taken to the partner's website (such as Coursera)
  • 3.If you enroll in a course or make a purchase, we may receive a small commission
  • 4.Your purchase price remains the same — you don't pay extra

Affiliate links are identified on pages where they appear. These commissions help us maintain and improve our free decision-support tools for the military community, including:

  • PayRecon (True Civilian Salary Equivalent calculator)
  • JobRecon (Career translation and skills analysis)
  • MoveRecon (Location comparison and relocation planning)
  • BenefitsRecon (VA benefits optimization)
  • RetirementRecon (Military retirement planning)
  • LifeRecon (Career exploration for young people)

4. Our Affiliate Partners

We participate in the following affiliate programs:

Current Affiliate Partners:

Coursera (via Impact)

Online courses, specializations, and professional certificates from leading universities and industry partners. We recommend Coursera resources that align with high-demand skills identified through our JobRecon career translation tools.

We may add additional partners in the future as we identify educational resources and services that genuinely benefit the military and veteran community. This page will be updated accordingly whenever we enter into new affiliate relationships.

5. Editorial Policy

Affiliate relationships never influence our recommendations. We recommend educational resources based on objective criteria, not commission rates.

Our Recommendation Criteria:

  • Relevance to military career transitions: Resources must directly support service members transitioning to civilian careers or advancing their professional skills
  • Quality of instruction and course content: We evaluate courses based on instructor credentials, curriculum quality, and learning outcomes
  • Value relative to cost: Resources must provide genuine value and be worth the investment of time and money
  • Alignment with skills gaps: Recommendations are based on skills gaps identified by our career translation tools and labor market data
  • Feedback from the military and veteran community: We consider reviews and experiences from other service members and veterans

If a resource doesn't meet these criteria, we won't recommend it — regardless of whether an affiliate program exists. Conversely, we regularly recommend resources and tools that have no affiliate programs simply because they're the best option for military families.

6. FTC Compliance

This disclosure is made in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission's 16 CFR Part 255 guidelines concerning the use of endorsements and testimonials in advertising.

The FTC requires that affiliate relationships be clearly disclosed to consumers. We take this responsibility seriously and are committed to full transparency with our users about how we generate revenue.

Key FTC Principles We Follow:

  • Clear and conspicuous disclosure of affiliate relationships
  • Honest and truthful representations about products and services
  • No deceptive or misleading endorsements
  • Editorial independence maintained despite financial relationships

We believe in full transparency with our users and will always disclose affiliate relationships in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
